Electric trucks for hauliers and own-account transport

Electrifying trucks and vans is the next big step for many companies in the Greater Region – on their own sites and on cross-border routes.

What it is about

More than a new vehicle

Switching to electric trucks requires suitable charging on site and along the routes – across borders too. Grid connection, peak loads, routes and idle times must fit together.

PAE-e-green helps SMEs identify their needs, assess the conditions in their region and develop a concrete strategy for getting started. htw saar leads this work.

What we offer

Visit, compare, plan

Technical visits to logistics providers, charging infrastructure suppliers, companies and research institutions in every sub-region – focused on charging and the use of electric trucks.

A first visit took place in June 2025 at Kautz Starkstrom GmbH in Trier: battery swap stations, charging networks for cars and trucks in Germany, and experience with electric vehicles in the company’s own fleet (Events).

Next meetings: 29 October 2026 at LVS in Germany and 2 December 2026 at Milence in France – dates and registration.

The sector coupling demonstrator shows how photovoltaics, charging points and production can be coordinated to reduce peak loads.

Framework

What applies in the countries

Belgium has allowed the legal conversion of combustion vehicles to electric or hydrogen drive (retrofit) since June 2023.

Luxembourg supports the conversion of heavy-duty vehicles in 2026 through a call for projects and an aid scheme for zero-emission vehicles, explicitly including retrofit.

In Germany and France, national strategies focus on electrification; funding keeps changing – we help you find your way.

Checklist

Questions to get started

  • Which routes do you run, with what distances and idle times?
  • Charging at the depot, at customers or on the road – and across which borders?
  • Is your grid connection sufficient, and how can peak loads be avoided?
  • New vehicle or conversion of an existing one?
  • Which funding schemes apply in your region?
